Research
has shown that the first part of the day, usually from 8 to 12 noon
is when our brain works at optimum levels of creativity and clarity.
Using this time for your high-priority brain tasks will:
Save you time as you will do the task faster,
Will
give you higher quality results, as you will use your best brain
capacity.
However,
distraction is what quite often comes in the way and unless
dealt-with drastically it may have disastrous effects on your quality
of work and on the amount of unfinished tasks.
Some
simple but very effective ways to deal with this which can be applied
by everyone are listed below:
The
first thing when we start work is to make a list
of the things that need to be done. The brain will be soon worn out if you use it as a storage place. This may even lead to increased stress
levels and fatigue. So put your tasks on paper, prioritize and go.
Secondly, organise your work in blocks of time and adhere to it. 90 minute time
blocks is the most common recommendation, as the breaks will energise you and cater for more quality work to come.
Avoid checking your mails before the second or third block of your work
time, unless specific reason makes it necessary to do so earlier.
Reading mails has been another source of great distraction and
some bad news may even have a negative effect on your energy for the
rest of the day.
More
often than not, success is not a matter of long hours but a matter
of quality, high energy and creativity at work. Making sound use of your skills, and sound management of your time, will eventually lead to
fewer working hours and great work results.
